The 2021 Canadian federal budget allocated $13 million dollars per year over three years to support screen-based content made by First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples. The TELUS Fund has committed over $25M to more than 100 projects since 2013. Investors Group recently partnered to produce an episodic series for women entrepreneurs featuring Manjit Minhas.

Philanthropists and global influencers are also entering this space. Melinda Gates recently announced a nonfiction publishing imprint with Flatiron Books, a division of MacMillon. The Obamas, Clintons, and Prince Harry & Meghan Markle have all started production companies dedicated to media that go beyond entertainment to lift and shift society.
